Despite global crisis the Panama Canal doing well

The Panama Canal has been performing well this year despite the global economic crisis affecting major users of the waterway as the United States, European Union and Japan. This is mainly due to the diversity of routes that are handled, the vice president of finance at the Panama Canal Authority (ACP), Francisco Miguez, in a meeting with reporters. He said all the world’s financial problems, the canal has been an increase in the load to total 322 million tons, more than 305 million which had been estimated, reflecting a variation of 17 million and a growth of 5.6 percent.
