Cuenca, Ecuador: Two Dead from Methanol Poisoning in Alcohol

According to ElComercio.com the Department of Health in Azuay confirmed the second death related to the poisoning of industrial alcohol. The Department also says that there are another two suspicious cases of alcohol poisoning being investigated. Officials say an autopsy of a resident of Cuenca has been completed and fluid tests found the presence of methanol. Yesterday, officials confirmed another person, Luis P., died of methanol poisoning and that another person is hospitalized with the same symptoms. Authorities say in July there have been 42 cases of alcohol poisoning, with 38 from methanol. Health officials in Azuay who are following four cases of alcohol poisoning in their province say that the four people had been drinking consecutively for one month.Read Article
