Cotacachi, Ecuador: U.S. expatriate couple victim of home burglary, items recovered at pawn shop

Posted on November 22, 2016 • Filed under: Crime, Ecuador, Ecuador Emergency

Cotacachi Ecuador is a beautiful hamlet perched high in the Andes. Over the last ten years many Americans and Canadians have moved there seeking an idyllic life in a small town. However, not often discussed are the victims of common robbery and theft. While it is not an everyday occurrence in this town of about 9,000 individuals, it is also not widely publicized when someone becomes a victim.

The following even recently happened to a couple from the U.S. who live in Cotacachi. It is from a facebook group and the names of the victims are not published in this post. October 11, 2016

My husband and I were robbed yesterday afternoon while he was at neighbors house and I am in states. We live out by carabuela between cotacahi and otavalo. They stole a laptop, monitor and my purse. Dog wasn’t harmed. Just let loose. Props to the imbabura police. They found our stuff at a local pawn shop place and returned it all a few minutes ago.(Facebook)
