Brazilian Scientists Confirm Significant Seismic Activity in Northeast

On April 4, 2013, Portal ORM reported that scientists at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) have confirmed that the Brazilian northeast has experienced earthquakes in the past few days.  Scientists recorded three episodes of earthquakes, the most recent being yesterday (4/3).  Scientists recorded an earthquake of magnitude 4.9.  The epicenter of the quake was in the Atlantic Ocean, about 650 miles off the coast of Natal.  In the town of Pedra Preta, the ground shook twice yesterday after quakes of magnitude 1.2 and 1.9, respectively.  Read Article
