Brazilian Ex-President Elected Chairman of Key Senate Committee

On February 26, 2013, Agência Rio reported that Fernando Collor de Mello (PDT), President of Brazil from 1990 to 1992 and current Federal Senator from Alagoas, was elected President of the Senate’s Infrastructure Committee, considered to be the third-highest ranking committee. The committee is responsible for vetting and approving nominations for various government regulatory agencies. Since occupying a seat in the Federal Senate, Mr. Collor has presided over the Infrastructure Committee once before, as well as a term as President of the Foreign Relations Committee.  Read Article
