Brazilian Deputy Delays Court Action Requiring Disclosure of Unreported Assets

On January 13, 2013, O Estado de São Paulo reported that Henrique Eduardo Alves (PMDB-RN), favored to be the next Speaker of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies, has been accused of hiding money abroad by the Brazil’s Department of Justice (MPF).  On November 19, the First District of the Federal Regional Tribunal (TRF) met with Alves’ attorneys to determine the proper course of action, and they decided to wait until the Attorney General’s office finishes its investigation to ask him to disclose his personal finances.  This information first surfaced during the divorce proceedings between Alves and his ex-wife, Mônica Infante de Azambuja.  Read Article
