Brazilian Cities Say No to Public Transportation Fare Hike

On June 19, 2013, Terra reported that São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro; in response to the largest protest in the country within the last two decades, agreed to not increase fare on public transportation as hundreds of thousands of people hit the street to demonstrate against the fare hike. Other cities as well agreed to not increase the fare. Aside from the bus fare increase, many protesters dissented against increased spending on infrastructure for the Confederations Cup and the World Cup as the government increased expected spending to R$28 billion.
