BRAZIL: New Legislative Leader Vows to Fight Corruption in Rondônia in 2013

On December 28, 2012, Rondoniagora reported that Rep. Hermínio Coelho (PSD) made remarks regarding the continuing fight against corruption in Rondônia in 2013.  In his presentation outlining tasks accomplished in 2012, Coelho vowed a greater moralization of public administration and cited the scandal involving the former mayor of the capital, Porto Velho, leading to the mayor’s dismissal.  Other complaints addressed included money laundering between the Governor’s office and the Brazilian National Development Bank (BNDES), overestimation of economic growth in the state, and growing mistrust of the new mayor, Mauro Nazif (PSB).  Read Article
