Brazil hopes to begin mining of minerals in Atlantic

Brazil is preparing to exploit minerals at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, in international waters. The feat is unprecedented in two respects. The country has never ventured to exploit minerals riches (except petroleum) at such a depth, up to 6000 meters below sea level. The country also has never claimed to the international community that it has rights in an area so remote from the Brazilian continental shelf, which has an average extent of 329 kilometers from the coast.
