Beginning in January 2012, the murders caused by traffic accidents will be included in the Electronic Data Collection, the SSP (Department of Public Safety) of São Paulo, as a new criminal modality.

According to the department, the move sets a new methodology in the civil police units, as fatal crashes, caused by drunk drivers, began to be recorded as homicides lately.

The change was published in the Official Gazette of the State in the last 22 days and shall enter into force on 1 January 2012.

Under the new rule, police units should develop spreadsheet containing the numbers of digital records of occurrences of murders and robberies.

The review should be sent to the Center for Data Analysis, industry statistics from the Department General of Police. After consolidating the data, the survey is available for the Coordination of Planning and Analysis. Read Article
