Bahia, Brazil: Police Operation Arrests 8 Suspects Part of Drug Trafficking Gang

On August 9, 2013, Globo reported that partnerships between the civil, military and federal police as well the Public Ministry of the State, arrested eight members of a gang suspected to be under the rule of drug lord “Sassá”, the leader of drug trafficking activity in the region of Tancredo Neves and Engomadeira in Bahia. Sassá died after an altercation with police during the operation. This region is one of the main focus areas of drug trafficking in the state, according to police. During the operation, police seized drugs, weapons, and a notebook containing drug sales. Police report this gang is responsible for setting 15 buses on fire as an attempt to force the people against the police. Read Article
