Attorneys Seek Conviction of Individuals in Human Trafficking Ring in Tocantins, Brazil

On January 22, 2013, Conexão Tocantins reported that federal prosecutors in the Brazilian state of Tocantins are seeking the convictions of a group of individuals suspected to be involved in a human trafficking ring sending young women to Spain.  The ring operated in the city of Gurupi.  The investigation focuses on four groups involved in four different parts of the operation:  recruitment of women, facilitation of travel, financing the trip to Spain, and the owners of the travel agencies responsible for accepting foreign money.  The scheme operated between 2006 and 2007, and investigations began in 2007.  Read Article
