Argentina suspends gas supply to Uruguayan companies

Argentina has cut its gas supply to a large group of Uruguayan companies with interruptible contracts this week due to an increase in demand because of cold temperatures in Argentina, according to abc.com.py. These companies pay less for gas at the risk that their service can be suspended, and will use alternative fuel during those times. The Director of Energy in Uruguay says this happens about once every year, but that Argentina guarantees the supply to households will not be suspended. About 45,000 households in Uruguay receive gas from Argentina and use around 300 thousand cubic meters a day collectively.
