74% of Brazilians Want Renan Calheiros to Resign, Study Shows

On March 8, 2013, O Estado de São Paulo reported that a recent study done between March 2 and March 3 indicates that Brazilian voters want Federal Senate President Renan Calheiros (PMDB-AL) to resign.  The nongovernmental organization Avaaz conducted a telephone survey of 1,000 Brazilians, in which they asked whether Calheiros should resign.  In addition, 64% of the respondents said that the election system for President of the Federal Senate should not be done by secret ballot.  Another 56% think the vote itself was illegitimate or manipulated.  Read Article
