693 kilos of marijuana seized in school in Paraguay, director arrested

Police discovered 693 kilos of marijuana in the Primero de Marzo school in the city of  Caaguazú, Paraguay, about 175 kilometers east of Asunción, on June 6, 2012. The drug was divided into 47 packages and stored in a closed restroom, La Nueva reports. Alcadio Ramírez, director of the school, was arrested during the seizure. According to media reports, Ramírez attempted to flee the school when he saw police on the premises, which drew the attention of staff and students. He had reported prohibited teachers and students from using the restroom in which the drugs were found. The  International Narcotics Control Board of the United Nations reported in March 2012 that Paraguay is the leading producer of marijuana in South America. Read Article
