Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Favela Residents Protest Against Disappearance of New Victim

On August 14, 2013 Globo reported that due to the disappearance and confirmed death of a 17 year old in a Penha favela in Rio de Janeiro, members of the community responded with violence. Accusing the Police Pacification Unit to be responsible for the teenager’s death, residents forced roads to close, set three buses on fire as well as attacked a police car. The police report no involvement of any fellow officer in this crime and are investigating the possibility of homicide although no signs of violence were found on the body. Read Article
